September 7, 2006 Orientatationalism

Today was the beginning of orientation. For some reason, this will go on for 4 more days. We ate pizza and pasta and risotto for our catered lunch (surprise) and went on a brief walking tour of the city. I say brief, but we saw about 70% of it. This city is imminently walkable, and I can’t wait to get out and explore some side streets. Karen and I went going out tonight to get cell phone service, and to see if the grocery is still open, but we never found either of them. We did find the Duomo again and some lovely side streets and the train station and loads of tourists, so we felt good about the outing. We sat and had a lovely dinner and conversed like people on a good third date (without that third date pressure). The whole getting to know you process is very rapid when you're thrown into a new country and small apartment with strangers. Add a camera crew and some good editors and we'd have a great network program...

I have a placement test for my Italian language class in the morning, and I've been reviewing a little here and there, but mostly it just makes me realize how much I've forgotten. Wish me luck!
