Thursday, September 15, 2006 A Night Out

My poor roommates: Karen’s classes won’t count for anything when she gets home, so either she sacrifices an entire semester or changes her major when she gets home. She’s in negotiations to try to get it all figured out. Melissa and Liz are bummed that our attendance policy is so strict (so am I, frankly. Miss 3 and your grade goes down one letter, miss 5 and fail) and so we’re starting to feel like there is no time to travel.

We all came home and ate well (I made risotto and chicken, the girls had pasta) and shared music on our various iTunes, then decided we had to go out. We all got dressed up, I blew out Karen’s gorgeous hair and around 10:30, we made it outside. It was raining, but nothing we couldn’t deal with. Then it rained harder, and harder, and then we didn’t know where we were going, and it rained some more. Karen and I gave up, but Liz pep-talked us into going for one drink before going home. Liz has some extreme Pep Talk skills. I remembered a totally American Irish bar right next to the Duomo, so we went there and had one drink, literally. I know there are a lot of Americans in Florence, but my goodness, how they were all packed into JJ’s Cathedral tonight. Some random girl called Jen was screaming so loud I was embarrassed for her. We ran into some classmates, and Karen got hit on by a very tall man who claimed he was from Cinque Terre, but maybe he was from the moon for all we know.

We walked home in the rain, past the video store, which was closed again (Liz who loves dancing movies has never seen Flashdance and Melissa has never heard of it, so we’re on the lookout) and now we’re all tucking in for the night. I considered tonight a warmup for my birthday outing (the young girls are totally stoked for it), and so tomorrow we’re going shopping for a birthday outfit, rain or shine.
