Tuesday, September 19, 2006 Il mio cumpleanno

Oggi e il mio cumpleanno, felicidade per me!

Sorry to be so missing the last week, it’s been a bit hectic now that classes have started. First, let me tell you that I have been cooking a LOT and I love it. I think I may have intimidated my roommates a little, because they seem to be eating out a little more often, unless I cook enough for everyone. It’s my pleasure.

I’m developing a cough which could prove to be my souvenir for the trip. It’s coming slowly, but it’s deep in the lungs. Hooray.

Today I came home and there was a little gecko on our door. I’ve seen them in the countryside, but it was a little different to have one at home. Then I broke a jar of anchovies (mine, see the cooking bit above) AND a jar of cornichons. My roommate Liz is a bit OC about cleaning (great for me most of the time, she mops and doesn’t ask me to, bad for me when I drop fish and pickles all over the porous tile). It wasn’t really my fault, the shelf in the fridge door fell out. Anyway, I thought I’d taken care of it, but Liz pointed out (nicely) that it still smelled a little fishy over there. So I sponged and disinfected and made a big show of taking out the garbage, and when I came back, the gecko was still there, only he was really squished up into the corner, and I thought I’d smashed him in the door. I was NOT looking forward to cleaning that up after the other mess. He was fine. Maybe he didn’t like the fishy vinegar smell now associated with me.

Michelle is here. I love having an old friend here. Liz is going to show me how to send a “facebook flyer” to all my new college friends (facebook is like myspace for students) and we’re going to have a birthday party on Thursday (that’s Michelle’s bday). What to wear?

Happy Birthday Birthday girl! There's no better place to celebrate than Italia! Our days in DC schlubbing around the office seem dreadfully boring my comparison. Joey misses you LOTS (he likes to moon about and complain a lot). Big hugs! Bettina
