Summah summah summah-tiiimmme!

When was the last time you saw strawberries like these? In a food magazine? I'm not surprised. Good, really really good strawberries just don't exist in real life, do they? Well, they do in Virginia. I have proof too. Joe and I walked to Virginia (relax, it's only a couple of miles away. Do you know Joe's nickname of Mr. Walk-a-Mile?) and ended up at the Arlington Farmer's market, where there was a very long line for the best smelling strawberries I have ever ever smelled from a distance of 10 feet. Seriously. The woman behind us said "I walked around and these are the best smelling strawberries around." The little girl selling them (with her family, of course) told Joe which basket was her personal favorite, and so of course we picked those. The woman behind us immediately said, "which is your second favorite!?" Anyway, as it turns out, when strawberries are perfection, you don't have to chew them at all, they just dissolve in your mouth. And they're actually red inside, like in the cartoons! I wish I'd gotten a pic of those too. Just look at the stains on the basket! That's for real! Viva summer!
ps, click on the pic for a supersized view of delicious berries.

Why are you surprised that they were red inside? What other colour would they be?? Very nice berries, but maybe I don't appreciate them as much because yummy strawbellies are pretty easy to find here! I still think walking to Virginia sounds impressive though!

Well, they were RED inside, same as the outside. Not pinkish or white, or hard. They were RED RED! That's not common, even in the dead of summer, at least not for the common grocery store berry.

Look at the strawberries on pinchmysalt.com

They look yummy too. We even got decent strawbs here now. The nation of crappy, uneventful, in-aromatic produce.
